Multiple massive wildfires are leaving a trail of destruction and death in the Los Angeles area.
Several wildfires on Tuesday, sparked by strong winds and dry conditions, exploded in size. As of Sunday morning, 16 people had been killed and more than 12,000 buildings and structures had been destroyed. More than 153,000 people have been advised to evacuate, and more than a dozen are missing.

The largest of the fires, the Palisades Fire, is more than 35 square miles in area. That’s more than half the land area of Washington, DC. The second fire, the Eaton Fire, is now more than 22 square miles in area.
The Palisades Fire threatens thousands of buildings surrounding the fire.
The Palisades Fire grew rapidly, more than doubling in size within hours on Tuesday.
The fire caused power outages across Los Angeles.
