The Seattle Seahawks delivered a commanding performance on Sunday night, securing a 20-3 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs, a team that entered the game undefeated. This matchup, often referred to as the Kenneth Walker III revenge game, showcased a dominant Seahawks defense that restricted both superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Walker, the former Seahawk who was named Super Bowl MVP earlier this year, to their lowest offensive outputs of the season.

Defensive Dominance

In what became a pivotal win for Seattle following two consecutive losses, the Seahawks’ defense emerged as the highlight of the matchup. Mahomes was limited to just 165 passing yards, failing to throw any touchdown passes while recording one interception. On the ground, Walker, who had been leading the league in rushing yards, was contained to a mere 36 yards on 14 carries, a striking contrast to his previous performances where he had achieved over 100 rushing yards in four of the Chiefs’ opening five games.

Seahawks’ Offensive Strategy

The Seahawks not only excelled defensively but also demonstrated a strong ground game. Seattle amassed 153 rushing yards on 41 attempts, with running back Emanuel Wilson achieving a century mark of 100 yards for the first time since Walker’s Super Bowl performance. Quarterback Sam Darnold contributed with a solid game, throwing for 257 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, bolstered by the standout play of wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who recorded nine receptions for 150 yards and a touchdown.

Coaching Perspectives

Seahawks head coach Mike MacDonald expressed pride in his team’s resilience, stating, “Really proud of our team. To stand steadfast in some adversity, that’s what we do. We find solutions.” The defense’s impressive performance marked a low point for the Chiefs, who struggled to gain momentum, ultimately achieving their fewest total yards, first downs, and red-zone drives during a Mahomes start. MacDonald praised his players, declaring, “Our guys played great, man; they’re just a bunch of warriors.”

Chiefs’ Challenges

The defeat was humbling for the Chiefs, who fell to 5-1, managing to score fewer than 22 points for the first time this season. Andy Reid, the Chiefs’ head coach, remarked, “We’ll go back to the drawing board,” acknowledging the need for improvement across the board. Mahomes echoed his frustrations about the performance, noting, “You gotta feel it. This sucks.” An additional setback came from kicker Harrison Butker, who missed two attempts at field goals that could have shifted the game’s momentum.

Looking Ahead

This victory marks a crucial turning point for Seattle, improving their record to 4-3 as they gear up for two consecutive home games. The Seahawks will host a challenging matchup against the 5-2 Chicago Bears on November 2, a team that has averaged 30.8 points across their last four games. Meanwhile, the Chiefs will need to regroup quickly as they prepare to face another formidable defense in the Denver Broncos next week.
