Former President Donald Trump recently made a notable announcement on his Truth Social platform regarding a potential appointment for the press secretary position at the White House. He stated that he has extended an offer to UFC president Dana White, framing White as an exemplary candidate for the role.
In his post, Trump characterized White as a “violent Fighter and Warrior,” reflecting on his dynamic persona within the combat sports industry. He expressed enthusiasm for White’s potential contributions, urging him to accept the offer: “Dana will be a Press Secretary like none other. Dana, please take the job!”
Trump also suggested that if White were to accept the position, he should consider bringing several prominent UFC fighters as assistants to bolster his defense against what he termed the “Lunatic Left.” The mentioned fighters included notable names such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, and Amanda Nunes.
The relationship between Trump and White has been long-standing, marked by mutual support and attendance at various UFC events during Trump’s presidency. Notably, earlier this year, White organized a commemorative UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House that coincided with the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, which was attended by numerous Republican lawmakers and Trump administration officials.
The press secretary position has recently seen turnover, with Katie Zacharia resigning after only five days in the role, which follows the departure of Karoline Leavitt in August, who stated her intention to spend more time with family. Following these changes, the White House is currently without a press secretary.
As for Trump’s offer to White, it remains unclear whether this proposition is intended as a serious bid or more of a figurative expression of camaraderie. The White House did not provide immediate commentary in response to inquiries regarding the potential appointment.
Additionally, the administration experienced another shake-up when chief of staff Susie Wiles announced her resignation. Trump subsequently appointed longtime adviser Stephen Miller as her successor.
