Summary: Project Eleven is set to enhance its Strongpoint platform by collaborating with Quantus, aimed at providing secure institutional custody for post-quantum blockchain assets. The integration is anticipated to begin in Q1 of 2027.

The future of crypto asset protection relies critically on the robustness of cryptographic systems guarding private keys. However, Project Eleven recognizes that existing cryptographic techniques may not suffice as quantum computing advances.

In an announcement made on Thursday, Project Eleven revealed its partnership with Quantus to elevate Strongpoint, their specialized institutional custody platform that prepares for the transition to post-quantum cryptography.

This partnership involves integrating Quantus Network into Strongpoint, with operational support expected to commence in the first quarter of 2027.

The essence of Strongpoint lies not in routine network integration but in addressing a significant challenge for custodians. As the potential for a quantum-resistant blockchain grows, it is improbable that all networks will transition to a unified cryptographic standard simultaneously. Each network will likely adapt using varied signature schemes, thereby following distinct migration timelines.

This creates a problem for organizations, as banks and custodial services no longer can just overhaul their entire security framework every time the blockchain adjusts its signing mechanisms.

Strongpoint is engineered to decouple these operational and encryption layers. The platform encompasses essential organizational controls—like transaction authorization policies and key management—within a standardized governance framework, while the underlying encryption can adjust to network changes.

This concept is referred to by Project Eleven as “Cryptographic Agility.”

Quantus plays a pivotal role in influencing how networks and architectures designed for post-quantum security can cohesively operate. This latest collaboration follows the launch of Strongpoint, which was previously developed alongside the Zcash Foundation, ensuring compatibility across various network requirements.

Although quantum computing represents a prospective risk rather than an immediate existential threat to existing blockchain technologies, caution is essential. Over time, as quantum technologies progress, a myriad of digital assets may be vulnerable unless they transition to more secure cryptographic assumptions.

For average retail users, upgrades might necessitate transitioning funds to new address types. However, for institutions, this complexity is compounded due to dependencies on existing hardware, policies, and compliance structures.

In light of these challenges, custody service providers are beginning to proactively address quantum preparedness as a key operational concern before it escalates into an urgent issue.

While the integration of Quantus into Strongpoint has yet to occur and no imminent quantum threats demand immediate action, the proactive work being carried out today serves to mitigate risks associated with any future transitions in encryption protocols.

As such, preparation is fundamental; restructuring foundational storage methods amid a crisis would be ill-advised.
