Lara Trump, the daughter-in-law of President-elect Donald Trump, said Saturday that she has decided to remove her name from the list of candidates for the Florida Senate seat.

The announcement quashed speculation that he was interested in replacing Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida), whom President Trump wants to become secretary of state.

In a post on Ta.

She went on to tease a “big announcement” she will share in January.

“I remain very passionate about public service and look forward to serving this country again sometime in the future,” she added. “In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment.”

Earlier this month, she announced she would step down as co-chair of the Republican National Convention. She previously held the position in March.

Trump, who is married to the president-elect’s son Eric, reiterated in the post that he “couldn’t be more honored to serve as co-chair of the RNC,” adding, “I am honored to have been shown the incredible I am truly humbled by the amount of support we have received.” The people of our country and here in the state of Florida. ”

If Rubio is confirmed by the Senate as secretary of state, his seat will become vacant. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis previously said his team would likely choose who to fill Rubio’s seat by early January.

“Florida has the power to help President Trump fulfill his electoral mandate, to be strong on immigration and border security, to fight entrenched bureaucracies and the administrative state, to reverse national fiscal decline, and to support conservative causes.” “We deserve a senator with a proven track record who is driven by the United States,” DeSantis said in a November post to X after President Trump nominated Rubio.

Lara Trump had expressed an openness to working in another capacity during her time at the RNC, fueling speculation that the Senate seat would be hers.

“It would be a real honor if I was selected for another role. I haven’t been approached yet, but if I was offered one I would strongly consider it,” she told Fox News in November.
