Actor Drake Bell told his Nickelodeon co-star Josh Peck that he was worried about the fate of his friendship after reporting allegations of child abuse in “Drake & Josh.”
Former Child Stars, who first reunited in nearly 20 years for an episode of Peck’s Podcast episode “Good Guys,” was reflected in a revelation made in last year’s docusary.
The Research Discovery Series, aired in March 2024, featured interviews with several actors and former child stars who claimed abuse, inappropriate behavior and toxic work environments when they appeared on the Nickelodeon show.
According to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department, it was the first time that Bell has publicly addressed his accusations of child sexual abuse against Nick’s dialogue coach Brian Peck (has no connection with Josh Peck). The release said Brian Peck abused an unidentified minor who had worked for six months.
According to a case summary in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Brian Peck was found guilty of indecent or lewd behavior with a 14- or 15-year-old child and oral mating with a minor under the age of 16. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison.
Brian Peck was on a “walking set” while filming the show’s pilot while investigations were happening, Bell said on an episode of the podcast.
“The thing I felt most comfortable was when I was happiest was when I was on set with you guys,” Bell told Josh Peck. “And the worst part was getting there every day. There were monsters there.”
Attempts to reach Brian Peck for comments failed on Monday. When the “Drake & Josh” pilot was shot, Bell struggled over whether the situation would have a negative impact on the future of the show. He feared that the investigation would be published.
“When this fell, Josh looked at me and said, “Both, did you take our dreams?” …And you’re going to lose the show, for example? ” Bell said as he spoke of his stress. “Hey, I’ve lost my hair. It looks like I had these giant scabs on my head.”
“Drake & Josh,” where the two played polar opposites with their stepbrothers, ended in 2007. Bell’s identity in Brian Peck’s case was not revealed until last year’s debut.
Josh Peck previously said he personally reached out to Bell after “Quiet Onset” was released.
When they got caught up in an episode of the podcast, Josh Peck recounted the moment when he realized Brian Peck had suddenly disappeared from the set.
He recalls saying, “I felt something had happened,” and asking Bell if he had spoken to Brian Peck one day.
However, Josh Peck said he learned the full scope of what his co-stars had experienced before Docusary appeared.
“It made me know a lot about what you had to go through, with the 38-year-old documentary as a father and an adult,” Josh Peck said. “I can’t even imagine that.”
He later said he worked as a child actor during that time. “There were so many things you could see on the set a day.
“And when you had a tyrannical boss, or when there were people who were simply acting inappropriately,” he continued. “I thought in Hollywood this was just a part of it.”
A Nickelodeon spokesman has previously issued a statement on the docusary.
“While we cannot support allegations of conduct from productions that were decades ago, Nickelodeon as a policy issue is investigating all formal complaints as part of its commitment to fostering a safe, professional work environment free of harassment and other types of inappropriate conduct.” Over the years, we have adopted a number of safeguards to ensure that we are meeting our own high standards and audience expectations. ”
Before “Silent Set,” Bell faced a controversy of his own. He was accused of “grooming” a female victim at age 12 and then sentenced to two years of probation for child danger.
After the Docusary was released, Bell experienced a wave of support. However, some of his fans assaulted his own accusers who faced online harassment.
