Ichikawa Zoo on the outskirts of Tokyo announced on social media on Sunday that there was an “intruder” in its monkey enclosure. The two were arrested by police.

The zoo conducted safety checks on the animals and found “no abnormalities,” but said it would take “countermeasures.”

The zoo announced that starting Tuesday, it will expand restricted viewing areas, install “anti-intrusion nets” and continue regular patrols.

Images and videos online showed a person wearing a bright blue suit and a smiley face mask climbing over a fence and jumping into the Japanese zoo.

NBC News has contacted local police for more information on the arrests.

Punch and his stuffed monkey captured the internet’s hearts earlier this year after he was abandoned by the other monkeys he lived with and rejected by his mother.
