Artificial intelligence is considered strange by some, and grows at a scary rate for others. What began as a curious and interesting experiment using basic commands and questions, and the fun reworking of classical paintings has grown into something that could become a plausible and sign industry in the near future.

There is no doubt that the creation of large-scale language models like Openai’s ChatGPT paved the way for groundbreaking development. With ChatGPT and other similar AI tools, some commands can create long content for research and information purposes, articles, code, and even images and videos.

But what’s even more frightening is the ability of AI to mimic humans. Therefore, it may be indistinguishable from actual flesh and blood. These deepfakes are becoming more than just a nuisance, they are becoming a threat to national security. For example, when a video created by the deeper positions of Ukrainian President Voldymir Zelensky told the army to surrender to Russia early in the war. The debate over the ban on deepfakes has been around for some time, but so far, no concrete has been implemented.

History generated by AI

But just as sinister as deepfakes is the overall role of AI in maintaining the facts. In fact, many people think that artificial intelligence is fair, but AI is the subject of the exact same bias and lies as its creators. Deekseek illustrates this. AI tools developed by the Chinese refuse to say, for example, mention of the Tiananmen Square Massacre in 1989. For example, it essentially erases this incident from history. In fact, users can see the chatbot do this right in front of them.

Governments have rewritten history for centuries, and from burning books in the Nazi era to changing texts by the Gutenberg Press, AI represents the new dynamics of permanence that can do this digitally, and the speed at which misinformation reaches people through the Internet. Furthermore, AI is used by many people in research and relies on it as a reliable source of information, and is increasingly used in classrooms.

However, despite these ethical concerns, tech giants like Microsoft and Amazon Web Services have integrated AI tools such as Deepseek into cloud services. This means that people using infrastructure (the majority of people who have access to the Internet are exposed to AI tools that only tell the truth if they are programmed. How can you trust biased tools for storing historical information and data?

Blockchain-based solutions

In a future where humans and AI become more and more coexist with each other, it is clear that we must find alternative ways to preserve information, images and, most importantly, historical facts. Solutions and blockchains that cannot erase, tamper or rewrite this data are the only technology that offers this solution today.

A blockchain is an immutable ledger that cannot delete or modify information. Transactions or other data are stored permanently on the blockchain when recorded. A proper way to maintain history in a world where records rely on the whims of politicians and other powerful individuals. This is probably the noblest use case for blockchain censorship resistance. It’s not an attempt to avoid it, it’s an attempt to save it.

Several ventures are already working on creating blockchain-based solutions specifically designed to maintain history and facts. This includes blockchains designed to be stored in tokenized assets from stories, writing, music, paintings, or simply ideas and traded in chains.

Persistent Cloud

Arweave, on the other hand, is a blockchain that provides a data storage solution that guarantees data forever or at least 200 years. This model contrasts with traditional cloud services such as Google Cloud and Amazon Web Services, which support the entire Internet.

For example, if you have a photo or word document stored on Google Drive, it is stored in the cloud, but this cloud storage is vulnerable to violations, sync issues, or accidental or intentional deletion. Data stored in the cloud may also be censored or deleted by government or other authority. This puts a big question mark on the idea of storing important facts in historical data “in the cloud.”

A persistent, decentralized cloud solution eliminates all these issues. Once uploaded, it will be saved forever. It cannot be tampered with, removed, or altered in any way. You can always say who uploaded the data and when and what the original information contained therein is. This is the perfect solution for information that needs to be preserved, like historical records.

It is also impossible to pass deepfakes as the real thing of a permanent blockchain cloud network. Because it’s quickly clear who the fake videos and images are created. Similarly, the origins of the legal announcement can be easily verified, so no one will question the orders the President is giving to his army in the midst of a major conflict.

Finally, this Tamper Prevention Act data storage method also guarantees the source of the information. This can be very important in the “he said” argument. When these facts are increasingly threatened by technology that can produce deeper things like the lives of politicians and celebrities, it is time to explore the only solution that can truly sustain history.

Phil Mataras

Phil Mataras He is the founder and CEO of Ar.io, the first permanent cloud network that includes a suite of innovative, decentralized web services. Unlike traditional cloud infrastructure, ar.io utilizes Arweave Permaweb, which offers an immutable, origin-driven, economically sustainable model. AR.IO’s innovative solutions include distributed storage access, domains and hosting.
