Federal Reserve President Christopher Waller is scheduled to speak at Yale University’s CEO Summit on Wednesday.
Waller is one of five finalists being considered to replace Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell when his term expires in May. He is scheduled to be interviewed by President Donald Trump this week, according to CNBC’s Steve Reisman. However, President Trump has indicated that Kevin Warsh and Kevin Hassett are the frontrunners to replace Powell.
Waller, who was appointed to the Fed board by President Trump and confirmed by the Senate in late 2020, has emerged as one of the central bank’s most influential voices calling for rate cuts this year. The Fed has cut interest rates by a quarter of a point in each of its past three meetings. Mr. Waller previously objected in July, when policymakers opted to keep interest rates on hold.
