The US Post Service stated that it temporarily stopped all inbound packages from the Chinese and Hong Kong posts on Tuesday.

According to the alerts posted on the institution website, this change will soon be valid and only “even more notifications”. USPS said that letters and large envelopes called “flat” sent from China and Hong Kong were not affected.

The announcement will be made after President Donald Trump on Saturday signed a Presidential order to impose tariffs on China, Mexico and Canada. Trump agreed to refrain from imposing a 25 % tariff on Canada and Mexico for 30 days on Monday, but there are 10 % of additional taxes from China.

The provisions of the instructions eliminate popular trade missing holes known as “de minimis”. This allows exporters to ship luggage of less than $ 800 to US tax exemption.

The rules of De Minimis were important tools for Chinese e -commerce companies, including Shein and PDD Holdings Temu. Decoration.

According to data from the US Taxation Border Protection Agency, the United States processed more than 1.3 billion in 2024. The 2023 report from the U.S. House of Representatives selection committee on the Chinese Communist Party is more than 30 % of Temu and Shein’s packages shipped to the United States based on the provisions, and all de minimis “almost half” I discovered that there is a possibility of “responsibility”. Shipment from China.

The Chinese post office and Hong Kong post are postal services operated by the government. It is unknown whether the suspension will be sent from China and Hong Kong to ship via a private mail carrier. In response to clarification demands, the USPS spokeswoman pointed out the initial announcement of the institution to the CNBC.

According to CHRIS PEREIRA, president and CEO of consulting company IMPACT, the cross -border electronic business company depends on USPS about 31 % of the last mileage delivery. He also uses various shipping providers, including DHL, Fedex, UPS, and small careers.

USPS said, “Traditionally, it was a cost -effective option, especially for small Chinese sellers.” Pereira added that the suspension could lead to an increase in costs for sellers and the price of US consumers.

Representatives argued that importing de minimis gives Chinese companies to bypass tariffs to unfairly advantage. Trade staff also states that the De Minimis package is “the minimum documentation and testing.”

Trade organizations and defenders have claimed that illegal drugs such as Fentanyl have allowed them to enter the United States through mail, and have urged Trump to suppress the minimum shipment.

In the case of tariffs, it is unknown whether Temu, Shein, and other Chinese e -commerce platforms can maintain dramatic growth in the United States.

Temu and Shein previously stated that their business models did not depend on De Minimis. SHEIN and TEMU have opened a distribution center in the United States, so that Chinese sellers ship products to the United States so that they can be stored in local warehouses.

A major e -commerce company tried to oppose further trade restrictions, so the tendency to open a US warehouse for domestic distribution collapsed last year. Biao said.

Biao said that his company’s warehouse in Los Angeles had seen “explosive” demand, according to CNBC translation of Wen’s Mandarin Language remarks.
