A tragic incident occurred in Houston on Sunday evening when a helicopter collided with a radio tower, leading to a significant fire and multiple fatalities, according to officials.
During a press briefing, Police Chief J. Noe Diaz revealed that there were four individuals on board the private helicopter, including a child, at the time of the crash, which resulted in several deaths.
The Houston Fire Department conveyed that the crash took place in the 2nd Ward area, with the helicopter hitting a radio tower before igniting around 7:54 p.m. local time.
Fire officials reported that the flames spread to a three-block radius but were managed and extinguished. Thankfully, businesses in the vicinity were closed at the time of the incident.
Chief Diaz noted that it appeared no pedestrians or residents on the ground were hurt. The helicopter involved was identified as a Robinson R44.
As of now, authorities have not disclosed the names of those who were on board the helicopter.
An investigation has been initiated, with the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration involved in looking into the incident.
