Austin, Texas – A Texan man who killed a strip club manager and another man later urged a massive lockdown of the state prison system when he used cell phones smuggled to death row inmates to threaten lawmakers. was scheduled to be executed Thursday.

Richard Lee Tavler, 46, is the second inmate to be executed in Texas in just over a week, with two more scheduled for the end of April. He is due to receive a fatal injection at the state prison in Huntsville.

Taper was criticised for 28-year-old Mohammed Amin Ramouni, 28, and Haitham Zayed’s Thanksgiving Shoot Death in a remote area near Killeen in central Texas. Rahmouni was the manager of a strip club where Tabler worked until it was banned from the location. Zayed is a friend of Rahmouni and police say both men were killed at a late-night meeting and purchased stolen stereo equipment, an actual planned ambush.

Tavra also confessed that he killed two teenage girls who worked at the club, Tiffany Dotson, 18, and 16-year-old Amanda Bennefield. He was charged but never attempted to kill them.

Tabre repeatedly asked the court that his appeal had been dropped and he would die. He has also changed his mind several times on that point, and his lawyers have questioned whether he is mentally capable to make that decision. Tabler’s prison records include at least two cases of suicide, and were previously permitted to stay for execution in 2010.

“The petitioner has spent the last 20 years in court, and the point of wasting this court time is that no one else has wasted other people’s time,” December 9, 2024. written to the state court of criminal appellate. .

In 2008, Sen. John Whitmire, now Houston mayor, urged an unprecedented lockdown of more than 150,000 prisoners in the second largest prison system in the United States. While some people were trapped in cells for several weeks, officers swept over 100 prisons to seize hundreds of contraband items, including cell phones.

Whitmire oversaw the state prisons and headed a Senate committee, saying at the time the Tavrah warned him that he knew his child’s name and where they lived. Whitmire declined to comment on the pending execution of the Table through a spokesman for the mayor’s office.

The ACLU appealed Tabre’s case to the U.S. Supreme Court last year, and was appropriate for the appeal of a lower court by a lawyer who refused to attend the hearing over what they said was his request. He claimed that he was denied his agency.

The ACLU appeal alleged that Tabler’s lawyers ignored psychological tests that they determined they had “deeply serious signs of mental illness” that they had been ignored since childhood. The court refused to stop his execution.

Tabre works at a bar called Teazers, and investigators say he was in conflict with his boss, Rahmouni. He said that the family in Table could “clean away” for $10.

Tabler recruited friends who were soldiers from nearby Fort Cavazos, invited Rahmouni and Zayed to a meeting. Tavra both shot them in the car, then pulled out Ramouni and had his friends record a video of him shooting Ramouni again.

Tavra later confessed to killing him. At the ruling stage of his trial, prosecutors made a videotape statement written by Table that he killed Dotson and Benefield a few days later because he was worried about telling people that he had killed the man. It has been introduced.

Investigators said before he was arrested, Tavra called the Bell County Sheriff’s Office to untold lawmakers about the murders and secretly sought more strip club employees at the club He said he threatened to kill law enforcement.
