Actor Terrence Howard has revealed that he refused to portray Marvin Gay in a potential film due to the rumored homosexuality of the Motown singer.
The former “Empire” star made a confession in nearly two hours on Bill Ma’s “Club Random” podcast. Howard told Marhell that he had the opportunity to play Smokey Robinson as he had spoken with director Lee Daniels about the possibility of a gay biography.
“Do you know what happened with that? I ended up at Quincy Jones’ house… I’m asking Quincy, “I’ve heard rumors that Marvin is gay,” Howard said. “And I was ‘Was he gay?’ And Quincy is like, ‘Yes.’ ”
Daniels, the executive producer of “Empire,” has not made any films or TV series about gay life. It’s not known when Howard had these conversations. Famous music producer Jones passed away last November.
Gay married two women during his life and was not openly strange.
Howard went on to say that the filmmaker wanted to explore the homosexuality of gay rumors and could not kiss the man.
“I’m going to cut off my lips,” Howard said. “If I kiss a man, I’ll cut off my lips.”
He attributed it to him, unable to “fake it” and to play a role he didn’t understand. Maher told Howard he didn’t want to kiss the man either, but he referred to Howard’s self-funeral comments, “I wouldn’t do that.”
“Don’t want to kiss a man is not homophobic,” Maher said.
Comments received a backlash online. Some people call him Howard, while others urge people to stop interviewing Howard. One X user questioned how many times Howard would tell the world that “he’s uncomfortable with his manliness.”
“He shows his masculinity for the approval and acceptance of Sischwet’s men and he’s spiing gay men,” the user wrote. “We already know.”
Another nurtured Howard’s history with domestic abuse following allegations made by two of his ex-wifes. Users wrote after being given allegations that “I struggle with believing he likes women.”
In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2015, the actor admitted that he attacked his ex-wife, Lori McCommus, in 2001.
Howard’s second wife, Michelle Ghent, accused her of attacking her in a lawsuit that later fell. Howard told Rolling Stone that Ghent was about to spray him and that he was trying to beat her.
