Snoop Dogg made good on his promise to provide “Santa Doesn’t Get in the Bag Holiday Magic” during his halftime show during Netflix’s NFL Christmas Game Day.
The rapper’s “Holiday Halftime Party” was livestreamed during the Detroit Lions vs. Minnesota Vikings game in Minneapolis on Thursday, performing a mix of his classic songs and Christmas favorites.
The segment began with Snoop Dogg’s longtime friend Martha Stewart reading a special Christmas story.
“I jumped out of bed and said, ‘What is crack?’ The one and only LBC guy, give it up for Snoop de Double G,” Stewart read from the book.
Viewers then saw an image of a dog transformed into Snoop Dogg standing on a football field. He was joined by a marching band, backup singers, and a choir dressed in festive white and red costumes.
“Minnesota knows how to party,” the choir sang, with Snoop wearing a long red coat and pants.
“Today is Christmas and I’m going to be playing some of my favorite Christmas songs,” said the artist.
Lee Jae, Audrey Nuna, and Ley Ami, the vocalists of HUNTR/X from Netflix’s popular animated movie “KPop Demon Hunters,” also joined the rappers on stage, wearing all white for their “12 Days of Christmas” performance.
Country artist Laney Wilson entered the field in a lighted sleigh and performed “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” with Snoop Dogg dancing next to her.
The show concluded with a performance by Andrea Bocelli and his son Matteo. Matteo made a surprise appearance and performed a cover of Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas.”
As fake snow fell from the sky, the two stood on the podium alongside Snoop, Wilson, and HUNTR/X.
Snoop Dogg said, “Merry Christmas from my family to yours.”
At the beginning of Christmas, Kelly Clarkson kicked off Game Day with a pre-recorded performance of her holiday hit “Underneath the Tree.”
The song, which played before the Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Commanders game, featured the Emmy and Grammy award-winning star descending from the sky in a sleigh wearing a white dress.
Clarkson, accompanied by a band and backing vocals, sang the song in front of an oversized Christmas tree on a snow-covered soccer field.
Fans could be seen cheering on Clarkson in the audience, and actual cheerleaders from the four competing teams danced to her famously powerful vocals.
NFL players from four teams, including Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, also appeared during the song, showing off their football skills in front of a large, wrapped present.
Netflix has ramped up its live programming offerings recently, with the streaming giant hosting two NFL Christmas Day events for the first time last year. Beyoncé headlined the halftime show, performing songs from her country album “Cowboy Carter.” The game set a streaming record with 65 million total viewers.
This year’s NFL games were streamed hours before Netflix began releasing the first final episode of the hit TV series “Stranger Things.”
