One person died and another injured on Friday morning at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, prompted an order for shelter. The suspects remain large and could still be on campus, the university said.
The school said campus police had found the two suffering gunshot wounds after reports of shots fired at the student housing centre Casas del Rio.
The university said in a social media post, one person died and the other suffered life-threatening injuries.
“Due to the abundant attention, UNM has closed its Albuquerque Central Campus,” the school said. “Several law enforcement agencies are on the ground and are actively investigating.”
According to Albuquerque’s NBC Affiliate KOB 4, a new student orientation was being held at the school at the time of the shooting.
