DORAL, Fla. — President Donald Trump on Monday described the Iran war as “short” and “a quick jaunt,” suggesting the 10-day conflict that has roiled the Middle East may be nearing an end.
President Trump made the remarks in a speech to House Republicans and donors at his namesake resort outside Miami. Republican lawmakers will meet over the next three days to discuss legislative challenges and campaign strategies ahead of November’s midterm elections, which were upended by the Iran war.
“This was just a jaunt into what needed to be done, and we’re very close to finishing it,” Trump said.
His appearance before Republicans came a day after oil prices soared above $100 a barrel for the first time since July 2022.
“It’s going to be over soon,” Trump said at a press conference afterwards.
However, when asked for details, he did not say when the war would end.
