WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump announced Wednesday that he will pardon U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar (D-Texas), who was indicted on bribery and money laundering charges last year.
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump accused Democrats of working to “attack, rob, lie, deceive, destroy, and massacre anyone who dares to oppose far-left policies.”
“Based on these and other facts, I hereby announce a full and unconditional pardon for my beloved Texas Congressman Henry Cuellar and Imelda,” Trump said in a post, referring to Cuellar’s wife, who is also facing charges.
“Henry, I don’t know about you, but sleep well tonight. Your nightmare is finally over!” the President continued.
In a letter, the Querries’ daughters, Christina and Katherine, asked President Trump to pardon their father, saying they “believe that his independence and integrity may have contributed to the beginning of this incident.”
“As you and your families faced your own challenges, we understood your pain in a very human way,” Trump’s letter posted on Truth Social added. “We have prayed for you and your family that your strength, your peace, and your faith remain strong, because we know that behind the headlines there are real people who hurt, love, and are still hoping for a better day.”
One of the lawmaker’s lawyers, Seth Ducharme, declined to comment. A Justice Department spokeswoman did not respond to a request for comment. Cuellar’s office did not respond to requests for comment.
