This is how the Vatican explains Pope Pallium in its official program.
“One of the Pope’s liturgical insignias, one of the most inspiring ones is the pallium made of white wool, a symbol of the bishop, and at the same time the symbol of the lamb crucified for the salvation of mankind.
“The pallium in its current form is a straight sash made of curved white wool in the center, so it rests on the shoulders on top of the chasburu, with two black flaps falling forward and covered, making the vest remind you of one of the letters “y.” It is decorated with six black silk crosses, one on each end and four in a generational form, decorated on the front and back, with three pins (asikura) representing the three claws of the cross of Christ. ”
The butler places a pallium on Pope Leo’s shoulder
Dominique Manberty of the Deacon Cardinal places a white wool pallium on Pope Leo’s shoulder, a symbol of his idyllic mission and fellowship with the universal church.

The pallium was woven by the Benedictine nuns of Santa Cecilia in Trastevere, Rome. It is made from two lamb wool from the Trappist monk Ks, who blesses the lamb on January 21st during the East Feast of St. Agnes.
The pallium is held up with three pins similar to the nails of a cross and worn over the shoulders.
The Deacon reads St. John in the Gospel of the Clergy to faithful men
The deacon read the Baptist Gospel to the thousands of people who attended St. Peter’s Square, which recited in Latin.
The same Gospels, which are respected for incense, are now recited in Greek.
The Pope begins with a prayer before singing in the choir
Standing in front of an altar built outside the Cathedral of St. Peter, Pope Leo XIV prays that Mass will begin.
“On this day, brothers and sisters have been created by this day, we will update our memories of baptism through this sign of water,” said Pope Leo XIV, Latin.

American Catholics are “busy” for inauguration

Nico Zanalini, 27, converted to Catholicism this year and said it was “busy” in view of the pope.
He came from an early Mass at St. Augustine this morning, heading straight to St. Peter’s Square and said he “can’t overlook it” and that it was “the plan of God” that he was here in Rome.
Xanalini said that it is surreal to see the Pope being American and that he believes that American Catholicism will only grow for that reason.
Rubio discusses war in Ukraine with Vatican officials ahead of the inauguration
Diplomacy is on the sidelines as Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, the Vatican Peace Envoy on Saturday to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
Rubio thanked the willingness to engage in peace in the peace process, saying the Vatican could be a potential location for the Russian Freine story.
Rubio also met with Vatican officials, including Pietro Parolin and Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, secretary of ties with the Vatican nation.

Pope Leo XIV entered St. Peter’s Square. There, thousands of people gather to greet him. People cheer and waving as he passes through the public.

Flags from around the world are held high, including Colombia, Nigeria, Honduras, Venezuela and his home country.
Pope Leo XIV also holds Peruvian citizenship, and there are dozens of Peruvian flags in the crowd.

JD Vance visits Pope Francis’ tomb
J.D. Vance visited Pope Francis’ tomb yesterday at St. Mary’s Major Cathedral.
“He was loved by many Catholics around the world. I hope you will join me in praying for the rest of his soul,” Vance posted on X along with a photo of the tomb.
Vance met Pope Francis briefly on Easter the day before he passed away.
Pope Leo XIV is founded in the Vatican
The world’s eyes are today fixed in the Vatican city, prior to Pope Leo XIV’s inauguration.
In St. Peter’s Square, thousands of faithful high-ranking officials are set to gather together to witness a timeless ceremony. The new Pope receives the Fisherman’s Ring and Pallium, his symbol of religious authority and role as a shepherd in the Catholic Church.
The Pope is expected to convey a message that focuses on peace and unity with world leaders, including Vice President JD Vance and Ukrainian President Voldy Mie Zelensky, among participants.
JD Vance will return to the Vatican and Zelenskyy will be present
More than 150 international delegations will be present at the ceremony, including monarchs, presidents and ministers. The largest delegation is sent by the pope’s home states, Peru and the United States.
Vice Presidents J.D. Vice Presidents J.D. V. V. V. V. and Secretary of State Marco Rubio lead the US delegation. Vance, a Catholic, met with Pope Francis for a brief moment last month shortly before his death.
Ukrainian President Voldimir Zelenki will also be present in addition to Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, will be presenting in an attendance representing Charles III.
Tens of thousands of pilgrims and religious leaders are also expected to fill St. Peter’s Square.

What is the fisherman’s ring?
The Fisherman’s Ring was a signal ring presented to the new Pope at his inauguration, and began the Pope around 30, as a symbol of Episcopal authority, and as a successor to St. Peter, a fisherman apostle, and a successor to the first Pope.
When Pope Francis died, Cardinal Kevin Joseph Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, ruled the ring. Traditionally, the ring was ritually destroyed and symbolized the end of the Pope.
Rev. David Collins, an associate professor at Georgetown University and director of Catholic Studies, said the original purpose of destroying the ring was to “prevent counterfeiting and ensure that fake documents are sealed using the Pope’s ring.”
A new ring would have been struck before Leo’s inauguration, with his name surrounding the image of St. Peter throwing a fishing net.
Pope Leo’s family tree shows connections to the prominent Creole family
As the first Catholic Pope from the United States, Pope Leo XIV has ancestors dating back to Louisiana Creoles and people of free color, demonstrating the complex and interrelated issues of race and class in American history.
The Creole community appeared in Louisiana because of the culture that merging there. Descendants of French, Native American, Spanish, German, and West African countries all lived in the region during the colonial period when France and Spain owned Louisiana territory.
“His rise is not just a religious milestone, it’s a historical affirmation,” genealogist and former Louisiana archivist Alex Dapole Lee said of the man previously known as the Cardinal Robert Prebust.
In terms of how Pope Leo’s family ended in Illinois, Lee said his family is likely part of hundreds of other Louisiana Creoles who migrated north during the first wave of large corporations in the early 1900s.
