SANTA ANA, Calif. — One student was killed in a stab wound in front of a Southern California high school on Wednesday, and two others were injured, authorities said.
According to city police spokesman Natalie Garcia, three men, Santa Anna’s high school students, were taken to hospital, one of them died and the other two remained stable.
District spokesman Fermin Rial said the stab wounds occurred in the afternoon as students had left school for the day. Both students and non-students were involved in the incident.
Authorities were looking for at least two suspects whose connections between the school and the motive were not clear, Garcia said.
Other details such as the age of the victim were not immediately released.
After-school programs and athletics have been cancelled, and officials said schools will be able to access crisis counselors on Thursday.
Santa Ana is a city of about 300,000 people, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles. The school serves approximately 3,000 students.
