One aviator was killed, and another airline was injured in a gunshot wound following a “shooting incident” involving security forces at Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico earlier Saturday.
Security forces assigned to the 377th Security Force Squadron at Kirtland Air Force Base responded to the “incident” around 2am on Saturday, which led to the shooting, the base said in a statement.
The injured aviator was shot with the hand and taken to the University of New Mexico Medical Center for treatment, the base said. He was then released.
The other astronauts were killed at the scene, Cuff said.
“The cause and incident of the death remain under investigation by local government,” the base said on its release.
In a Facebook update, the base said “authors are investigating an incident that occurred near Kirtland Air Force Base this morning,” but what officials are leading the investigation and where did it happen? It wasn’t immediately clear.
The base said there is no threat to the public or base officials at this time, and the Truman Gate and the Truman Visitor Centre will be closed until notification.
No other details have been released by the base regarding the incident.
