In Texas’ Hill Country, flash floods killed at least 132 people while more than 160 people were missing, which was particularly moving for Morgan Chesky, an NBC News correspondent from Kerrville.
Cesky grew up just two blocks from the Guadalupe River. The Guadalupe River swelled during the flood on July 4th, clearing girls and counselors from Camp Mystic on the banks of the river.
He flew from Los Angeles to report the tragedy of his hometown, influenced his friends, and evacuated his mother in Guadalupe. Chesky’s stepfather helped keep their families and RVs out of the way before a powerful flood washed them down.
Since then, Cesky has interviewed survivors, worried families and local officials.
He will host Reddit AMA at 9am Monday. Users can submit their questions and answer them using this link.
“The nature of this job throws you into disasters all over the world. In each example, there is a layer of separation,” Cesky wrote last week. “But when it hits your home, it’s the first time you see a tragedy.”
