On Monday, France’s Emmanuel Macron’s office played the moment his wife, Bridget Macron, appeared to have stabbed him into the Vietnamese face at the start of the couple’s Southeast Asia tour.
In the video, filmed Sunday, Macron could be seen standing in the open doorway of the plane, his hands appearing to stab him in his face. Macron then pauses, heads out of the plane and flashes a smile and waves before moving out of the frame.
Most of the people who pushed Macron were off the frame, but it looked like they were wearing an AA jacket that matches the colour of the suit Bridget Macron had when the couple left the aircraft together a few minutes later. Macron seemed to offer his wife his arm, but she didn’t take it.
Elicie Palace officials performed at the moment, and the couple said they were “laughing.”
“It was the last moment when the president and his wife were relaxing before the start of the trip by laughing,” the official said in a statement.
Elise Palace did not immediately respond to requests for comment from NBC News.
Emmanuel Macron, 47, and his wife Bridget, 72, have been married since 2007. Neither of them addressed the incident.
Macron’s visit to Vietnam was first made by the French president in nearly a decade, and the trip aims to promote French influence in the former French colonies.
The visit comes after President Donald Trump threatened to place 50% of the mandate on European Union goods on Friday before delaying the deadline from June 1st.
France and Vietnam signed contracts on Monday for 20 Airbus planes during Macron’s visit to Hanoi.
