A FEMA employee was recently dismissed for instructing survivor assistance teams to avoid homes displaying signs that support President-elect Donald Trump during relief efforts for Hurricane Milton.
Although FEMA did not disclose the specific location or timing of this incident, Administrator DeAnne Criswell publicly condemned the action, calling it “reprehensible” in a statement issued on Saturday.
Criswell emphasized that this behavior directly contradicts FEMA’s essential values, which focus on providing support to individuals regardless of their political beliefs. She remarked that the agency’s over 22,000 staff members are committed to aiding those impacted by disasters.
“I want to assure all of our employees and the American public that such conduct will not be tolerated at FEMA, and we will enforce accountability if these standards are breached,” Criswell stated. The employee involved has been terminated, and the matter has been referred to the Office of Special Counsel.
Although the location of this incident remains unspecified, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has called for an investigation into what he termed “targeted discrimination” by the federal government against Trump supporters in the state, indicating he has directed the state’s Emergency Management Agency to look into the matter.
DeSantis expressed his concerns on X, stating, “The blatant weaponization of government by partisan activists in the federal bureaucracy is just another reason the Biden-Harris administration is failing.”
Recently, Florida faced devastating impacts from hurricanes Helen and Milton, which resulted in the loss of over 200 lives and significant destruction in states like North Carolina and Georgia.
