US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell will speak at a press conference on September 17, 2025, following the publication of a Federal Open Market Committee’s statement on interest rate policies in Washington, DC and Washington, DC.

Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell on Tuesday noted that asset prices are at a high level, a category that includes stocks and other risk instruments.

In a speech in Providence, Rhode Island, the central bank leader was asked how much he and his colleagues focus on market prices and whether they have a higher tolerance to higher values.

“We look at our overall financial position and ask ourselves whether our policies are affecting our financial position in the way we are trying to achieve,” Powell said. “But you’re right. For example, many measures make stocks highly valued.”

The phase to last week’s policy meeting saw a strong gathering of stocks and other assets as the Federal Open Market Committee increased its conviction of lowering its benchmark overnight borrowing rate. Since Wednesday’s decision to cut by a quarter percentage point, stocks have continued to rise, setting a string of highs on the main average record.

“The market listens, follows us, estimates where we think the rates are on the way, and they price things,” Powell said in part of the conversation dealing with mortgage fees.

Powell focused on the noble stock value, but he said this was “not an era of increased risk of financial stability.”

After Powell’s comments, the stock price went low, and all large average trades were traded in red.
