Three people were killed in a boat crash on Lake Alabama during a fishing tournament Wednesday morning, officials said.
The collision between the two ships on Lake Lewis Smith occurred at 7:03 a.m. when Nitro’s bus boat attacked the center console boat, Alabama law enforcement said.
The accident occurred on the second day of the Tackle Warehouse Invitational, Major League Fishing said in a statement.
“Our thoughts, prayers and deepest concern lie with everyone affected by this tragic incident,” Major League Fishing said.
The dead were identified as Joey M. Bloom, 58. John K. Clark, 44; Jeffrey C. Little, 62, Alabama Law Enforcement said.
All three were on the centre console boat, the agency said. Clark and Little said they were thrown overboard and owned, but Broom died from crashing injuries.
“Troopers in Area’s marine patrol division are still actively investigating the incident,” the agency said.
Days 3 and final of the tournament have been cancelled, Major League Fishing said.
“This is a heartbreaking moment for our entire organization,” Kathy Fennel, executive vice president and general manager of MLF, said in a statement.
