LONDON – An oil tanker and a freighter collided on Monday off the British coast in the North Sea, the British Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard under HIS, which serves as the UK’s national maritime emergency service, said it is coordinating its response to reports of collisions between tankers and cargo ships off the coast of East Yorkshire in the UK.
It said an alarm was raised warning the incident at 9:48am ET (ET).
British government marines and coast guard agencies said in a media statement that Coast Guard rescue helicopters were last dispatched to respond to the collision, responding to the collision, along with lifeboats from multiple regions.
It added that HM Coast Guard aircraft with “fire extinguishing capabilities” and nearby ships are also being deployed.
It was not immediately clear whether the injury had been involved in the early morning incident on Monday.
