Celine Dion Celebrated with a Special Edition Doll
Iconic singer Celine Dion is set to be honored with a limited-edition doll, a must-have collectible for her devoted fans. Mattel, the creator of the renowned Barbie brand, has announced the release of this special doll as part of its Mattel Creations collection.
The doll is inspired by Dion’s memorable performance at the 1998 Academy Awards, where she captivated audiences with her rendition of “My Heart Will Go On,” the theme song from the blockbuster film “Titanic.” It replicates her hairstyle and the elegant long-sleeved gown she wore during that iconic moment, complete with the Heart of the Ocean necklace, a key prop from the movie.
In an Instagram announcement, Mattel urged fans to act quickly, stating, “she’s limited and she’s legendary,” emphasizing the doll’s collectible nature.
This release comes at a poignant time in Dion’s career, following her announcement of being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder. She informed her fans in 2022 about the struggles she faces, describing how the condition leads to painful spasms that can hinder her ability to walk and sing. “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal chords to sing the way I’m used to,” Dion shared.
Despite her challenges, Dion remains resilient. In a remarkable display of strength, she performed at the Eiffel Tower in Paris for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Summer Olympics, singing Édith Piaf’s classic “Hymne à l’amour.” The emotional moment resonated deeply with fans and observers, including singer Kelly Clarkson, who expressed her admiration for Dion’s perseverance during her co-hosting duties for NBC’s broadcast. “If you know anything just about Celine right now … this is her purpose… that she got through that, that was incredible,” Clarkson remarked.
Last month, Dion made a significant comeback with a series of concerts, launching a new 26-show residency in Paris. Her setlist featured some of her greatest hits, including “All by Myself,” a song noted for its vocal challenge. A fan described the concert experience as a “victory lap,” showcasing Dion’s renewed spirit and determination. “I think her belief is renewed, I think her spirit is renewed,” commented Francesca Pezzulo, reflecting the sentiment of many fans present.
