During a recent rally in Syracuse, New York, President Donald Trump expressed disappointment over being overlooked for the Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize, calling the committee’s decision an “indelible stain” on Norway. Trump framed his comments as a critique of the committee, emphasizing that he believes his efforts in international diplomacy warrant the prestigious award.
Trump reflected on his claims to have ended or mitigated conflicts across various regions, including Africa and Asia, stating that he has “saved more lives than anyone in history.” His remarks came shortly after the Nobel Prize was awarded to Navi Pillay, an esteemed South African lawyer recognized for her human rights advocacy and work with the United Nations.
“I’ve never heard of the person,” Trump remarked regarding Pillay. “I know a lot of people. I never heard of this particular person, but congratulations, anyway… The United States of America, represented by me as your president, should have received the Nobel Peace Prize, but didn’t.”
Trump intensified his criticism, stating that the Nobel Peace Prize has lost its credibility due to the actions of what he labeled “radical ideologues” within the committee who, he argued, oppose democratic values and civilization itself. “And this is an indelible stain on the country of Norway and those people that made such a disgraceful and embarrassing decision,” he said.
He claimed that he should have received multiple Nobel Peace Prizes, asserting that he has successfully resolved eight different conflicts during his time in office, although he did not acknowledge ongoing conflicts such as the war in Ukraine and the tensions in the Middle East, where hostilities have persisted.

Trump also insinuated that the Norwegian committee’s choice to award Pillay was indicative of broader issues, claiming it illustrates how Norway and similar organizations are “ripping off” the United States. Throughout his second term, Trump has consistently pursued the recognition of a Nobel Peace Prize, with Republican allies voicing similar sentiments, arguing that his actions have significantly contributed to international peace efforts.
Adding some levity to the proceedings, Pillay herself jested during a gathering in Germany, where she remarked, “If you clap a little bit more, I may share this prize with Trump.”
At the rally, Trump supported New York’s GOP gubernatorial nominee, Bruce Blakeman, and also referenced Saritha Komatireddy, the Republican candidate for state attorney general. In a pointed attack on current state Attorney General Letitia James, a Democrat, he expressed a desire for change in leadership, stating, “you’re fired. Get the hell out of here.”

The Trump administration’s previous attempts to initiate legal proceedings against James, who has played a prominent role in investigations of Trump’s businesses, led to substantial penalties that were later overturned on appeal.
In response to Trump’s comments regarding the candidate he supports, James’s campaign spokesperson issued a statement, emphasizing the clear contrast in political philosophies and signaling a readiness to engage with the narrative presented by Trump during his rally.
