A leak at an Ohio semi-sauce plant was discovered this week, leading to a shipment of Frank’s Red Hot hot sauce being diverted, officials said.

The BST&G Fire District, which serves several areas north of Columbus, said Tuesday it was called out after something leaked from a big rig on the Interstate 71 highway.

“Eventually, the semi exited the highway and arrived at one of the truck stops. The mysterious liquid turned out to be 40,000 pounds of Frank’s Red Hots stuck in the trailer leaking!” the fire district revealed on Facebook.

The spill raised concerns about possible environmental impacts. Because the hot sauce is acidic, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency was called and responders attempted to contain the substance to prevent it from going down drains, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

Comments on the fire district’s post included jokes about wasting sauce and comments about the difficulty of washing the liquid off cars.

The effects on hot wings, pizza slices, red beans and rice, and other dishes were not immediately clear.
