According to Mizzou Football, Hardy suffered a gunshot wound Sunday morning and underwent surgery the same day. His condition is stable.

“Ahmad is deeply loved by his teammates, coaches, friends, family and fans,” the statement said. “We continue to stand by him and his family and offer our love, prayers, strength and support as they navigate this difficult time.”

The statement added, “At this time, it is unknown when he will return to soccer activities.”

Hardy, 20, is one of the best running backs in college football. He ran for 1,649 yards last season, second most in the FBS. He also scored 16 touchdowns in his first season with the Tigers.

Hardy grew up in Mississippi and attended Lawrence County High School in Monticello. He is a three-star player in the Class of 2024 who initially attended the University of Louisiana at Monroe before transferring to Missouri before the 2025 football season.

Hardy said his motivation for playing football was to support his family.

“I relied primarily on my mother to raise my four children: three boys and one girl,” Hardy told UL Monroe’s student newspaper, the Hawkeye, in October 2024. “Watching my mom struggle to get us to practice, put food on the table, and work hard made my back hurt. She did everything she could. That motivated me to never let her work again.”
