Representatives did not provide other details about the decision, including where Spears plans to receive treatment or why.
TMZ first reported, citing a source with direct knowledge, that she had entered a US rehab facility for substance abuse.
Spears, 44, was arrested in March on suspicion of driving under the influence in Ventura County, California.
After her arrest, Spears’ representatives said the incident was “completely inexcusable” and “we hope this is the first step in the long overdue changes that must occur in Britney’s life.”
Spears frequently posted on social media, many of which showed her dancing alone in her California home, including one in which she was seen holding a knife, which she later said were not real.
She last posted on Saturday.
In another post on Friday, she shared a photo of herself. The caption reads, “When a peep tries to make you look bigger than life…tell him to say hello.” “If I could show them the true fragility of my heart.”
Spears skyrocketed to fame in the late ’90s and was widely considered the “Princess of Pop.” However, her career was ruined by high-profile incidents in 2007, including when she was photographed with a freshly shaved head hitting a car with an umbrella.
In 2021, she was released from her 13-year conservatorship. As a result, they were unable to make personal and financial decisions for themselves.
She has two adult sons with ex-husband Kevin Federline.
