OpenAI has launched Prism, a free AI-native workspace designed to modernize the way scientists write, revise, and collaborate on research. The cloud-based platform, powered by GPT-5.2, integrates AI directly into scientific workflows through a native LaTeX environment.
This tool consolidates fragmented research tasks into a single platform, including drafting papers, managing citations, formatting equations, and coordinating between teams. Researchers can collaborate in real time with unlimited contributors, search and cite scholarly literature, convert handwritten equations to LaTeX, and revise manuscripts without switching tools.
Prism is built on Crixet, a cloud-based LaTeX platform acquired by OpenAI. This workspace is currently available to anyone with a ChatGPT personal account, with support for Business, Enterprise, and Education plans coming soon.
This announcement reflects OpenAI’s broader efforts to incorporate large-scale language models into core productivity tools. GPT-5.2 has already demonstrated impact in fields such as mathematics and molecular biology, and Prism aims to apply its capabilities to everyday scientific research.
